Home Up

These are the good, old girls.  They've had them, raised them, loved them and showed them the way.  I'm so grateful for these good, old girls.

Each one's special.  Each one has made a mark on me and Alki Swissies.

She is 8 years old now and she acts like a 4 year old. She finished her championship with a 5 point major, just one week before her grandson, Ch. Alki's Ever Watchful Heimdall. Hilda was the first Greater Swiss that I bred though she was the 4th swissy (3 CHs) that I had owned. She had 4 litters and is now 'living the life' in retirement with John Tremain and Kim Schnuelle and her half brother, Ch. Sudnly WHSP St. Nick V Alki 'Nick'. She was a great foundation bitch. She is a healthy, happy and well structured girl...and she passed these good qualities on to most of her offspring.  Many of her 'get' are very much like her...happy, participating and sound.

Champion offspring:

  • CH. Alki's Apple of My Eye 'Gala'
  • CH. Alki's York Imperial Bailey 'Bailey'
  • CH. Alki's Black Twig Tucker 'Tucker' JHD, DD
  • CH. Alki's Tanglewood's SD Fox in Sox CD, CDX, TD, JHD
  • CH. Alki's Derby Go Dawg Go, 'Connie'
  • CH. Alki's Sneech 'Charlie'
  • CH. Alki's PI Hetty Wainthropp 'Hetty'
  • CH. Alki's PI Kinsey Milhone 'Kinsey'
  • CH. Alki's Inbound Bogey Bearing NW 'Beau'
  • CH Alki's CIA-Canine Intelligence 'Keke'

Hilda has just turned 9 years and is doing well.  She is starting to slow down a bit but just as joyous and participating.  At the herding event last fall, she ran the sheep and decided that it was too much 'busy work' for her, later preferring to observe instead of motivate the them.  She still happily co-protects the house with Nick.  Walking daily, playing at the park, entertaining dinner guests with her willingness to participate.

Thanks John, Kim, Devon and Nick for including her in your wonderful life...these years have been good for her, may they continue for many more.

Lily was a beautiful, mild and well structured girl who captured the hearts of all those who met her. She is too dignified to do what some Swissies might do! She participated in Conformation, Competitive Weight Pull, Herding and did obedience without reservation. She finished her Championship with 4 majors. She had 4 litters with enough Champions in her first two litters to become an ROM (Register of Merit). She produces size, type, sweet temperaments and soundness. She was the ideal swissy to me.

Java is stately in her presence. She always stand tall and proud. She is vigilant in her watch and has a strong sense of order. She likes people, particularly children, and is accepting of strangers after introduction. She corrects the other dogs at my house and tolerates little misbehavior. She is poetry to watch, never putting a foot down wrong. Fluid motion, strong topline, beautiful head. Java has only had one litter, producing 3 pups. Of those pups, Molly, earned a 5 pt major at her first show and finished her Championship quickly with a 4pt major. Elvis, her bro, earned his Championship when only entered in 7 shows. The first weekend, he won Reserve Winners Dog (no points) to majors, followed by 5 consecutive wins with the last 4 being major wins to finish his Championship.  I'm so grateful for the contribution that Java made, no matter how many...they are great because of the strengths of their parents.

Gala is shown here taking Reserve Winners Bitch at the 2000 National Specialty and Best Breed By Exhibitor.  She won Winners Bitch a following day with the same competition.  She has earned additional awards at several IWPA Weight Pull beyond winning her WWD Title with Trial Bests of 'Most Weight Pulled' and 'Highest % Body Weight Pulled', with the last two Swissies still capable of pulling those weights being her litterbrother, Sam and herself.  She is a 24/7 gal with her owners, Jan Young and Laureen MacDonald.  She goes where they go, does what they do and would jump a cliff if asked. She has a 'Ferdinand' the bull attitude...all she needs are blue skies, butterflies and a picnic lunch with Jan and Laureen to be the happiest girl in the world.

Bailey has always been a very happy, robust, participating girl.  I'll never forget the times she's entered the party by putting her whole body eye level in front of her friends extending a greeting without placing a paw on anything.  She was one of the first of my home bred champions...earning her CH going Best of Breed over 17 (including pro handled specials) from the classes.  In those days, 17 was a huge entry and a great win.  When she moves, it's strong and fluid.  She out moved them all that day in Portland...and she moved me to watch her do it.   Thanks Bailey, Brad and Regina...it was a great experience.

Zita

CH Zita av Bjerkhaug 'Zita'

(I have no good photos of Zita, sorry)

Zita was bred by Lisbet Aarum, a dear friend and legendary Swissy Breeder in Norway.  Her mother, Caritza, and sister, Netti, made positive marks in the Norwegian Greater Swiss Mountain Dog community.  They won Norwegian Winners, Scandinavian Winners and more a few years each.  They are still doing well at 11 and 8 years, as is Zita.  There have been many offspring who have followed in their footsteps.  Zita contributed some of these same strengths to many American puppies.  Lisbet's lines can be found behind Timber and many others.  Her 'Happy' and 'Garo' were 2 of my most favorite Swissies of all time.

Thank you, Lisbet, for sending this wonderful girl to me...and sharing these good qualities with so many.
  • CH. A-W Alki's Zoom Zoom Zoom 'Jazz'

Zita has other Champions to her breeding credit. If you know who they are, please let me know.

10-06  Orca has a heart as big as Texas and the spirit of a pioneer...just like Alaska!  She jumped and barked with excitement when there was a 'job opening' at the Bodle household.  They needed a Swissy girl to romp, cuddle and companion 24/7 and she was totally up to the challenge.  She has moved to Alaska to pursue her dreams.  Together they can share the adventures of their lifetimes...together.  Knowing she's giving and getting the best life can offer is more than I could ever want for her.  Life is good and all spaces for love are filled upon identification.

Orca was born here and was returned before she turned a year old.  I'm so glad she's home.  She's sweet, intelligent and participating....She's one of those who really needs a strong connection with the owner.   I love her conformation, movement and (especially) the soft expression on her face.  She has points towards her Championship.  She's going to be hitting the dog show trail this late spring and summer.

Orca turned 2 on Sept 16th, was xrayed for her adult clearances on the 17th and came in season (as expected) a few days later.  The films looked fine with no dysplasia and they were submitted to OFA for her clearance ratings. I had hoped to breed her to Boone's precious frozen semen but decided to breed her to a male up from CA who has OFA excellent hips, all other clearances normal with complimentary type to hers, mild temperament and very good soundness. These wonderful pups were born and are beautiful, healthy and large.  I continue to be proud of Orca's temperament, as she's a good mother, friend and companion to us all here at Alki.
